The island of Antigua (in Creole Wadadli, which means our own) is an island in the Caribbean; the main island of the territory of Antigua and Barbuda, an independent state within the Commonwealth of Nations on 1 November 1981. This relatively flat island covers an area of 280 square kilometres and has a population of 80,161 in the 2011 Census, 32,000 of whom live in the capital city of Saint John's. It is located 39 km northeast of Montserrat and 41.5 km south of Barbuda.
